About End-of-Life Doulas

An end-of-life doula is a compassionate partner who supports individuals and their loved ones through the emotional, physical and spiritual dimensions of dying.

In our current system, health care professionals repair, care managers coordinate, and hospice and pastoral care comforts. End-of-life doulas work within this ecosystem to empower and allow—and invite a sense of wonder to this most natural and inevitable process.

Though typically engaged when the end-of-life is imminent, the big news is–we are all dying. In partnership with a doula, anyone has the opportunity to embrace mortality to affirm life with greater clarity and joy—even or perhaps especially in the midst of health and vigor. Just as birth doulas are best invited into the birthing process at the start of pregnancy, sooner engagement of end-of-life doulas can help us more fully occupy the precious, ever-unfolding of now.

Kosi Revaya is home to both Soulful Yoga and End-of-Life Doula Services, as dying is the ultimate spiritual practice. In the book Walking Each Other Home: Conversations on Loving and Dying, Mirabeau Bush and Ram Dass ask—what would it look like to approach dying with curiosity and love, and to accept it as perfectly safe?

“To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven: a time to be born and a time to die…”
